a scroll through the garden of tangled data

Almost everyone carries a digital database around with them. Pictures, chats, emails that never decay or even gather dust. Unfailingly, they get stored on inaccessible server farms, exploited by third parties. In the “Garden of Tangled Data”, things are different: data isn’t gathered but rather sown. Visitors can plant data, carefully harvested on their own smartphones, and observe how they hybridize, blossom and turn to humus in our digital community garden. Not for profit – for beauty. Chris Kondek / Christiane Kühl / Hannes Strobl and their team, along with coders and designers, are tilling an alternative ecosystem of fertile coexistence of technologies, plants and us humans. Vegetation has been measured and datafied long enough – doublelucky productions is vegetalizing data.

Originally planned as a performance installation for “Spy on Me #2” at HAU Hebbel am Ufer, the Berlin group now welcomes us to take a stroll along a path through a parallax website with words, audio and video. It’s just like any other garden: everything is alive, and no one is alone. The artists will be present on select dates for an online conversation with visitors.

On March 25, our first completely digital work goes online: a narrative website, created for Spy on me #3: New Communities at HAU Berlin.
