„Every room has a melody that remains hidden until it is made to sound.“ Alvin Lucier
The starting point and basis of the composition „Doorpusher“ is the architectural space with its acoustic properties, which are determined by shape, size and materiality. Sound spreads out in waves in all directions in the room and interacts with the space – creating resonances, reflections or damping. The sound is shaped, filtered and modulated by the physical space.
The tonal aesthetics and structure of the spatial sound composition are derived from these components. The natural characteristics of the sound and the complex interplay of space and sound become the central object of the sound design. Visitors are invited to move freely around the space. Different listening positions in the room change the auditory experience, enabling a dynamic listening experience and the opportunity to experience the relationship between sound and space. The gallery space becomes an interactive instrument.
ANATOMORPHOSEN is a multi-part project by Penelope Wehrli. Each part is created in close collaboration with colleagues from different art forms. Stories of imagined human species and their anatomical otherness are the starting point. PROCESSES OF BECOMING DIFFERENT. Two compositions have been created for Raumverschiebungen, which expand and link each other. Words are set in motion by apparatuses, sounds vibrate through the space. A story dances between them as a song.
Penelope Wehrli (stories, auto-choreographic composition), Hannes Strobl (space-sound composition „Doorpusher“), Joa Glasstetter (apparatuses) and a „Special Vocal Appearance“ by Gabriele Hänel.
